Chenille patches are made using a "vaulted" yarn technique. We loop soft, fuzzy acrylic or wool yarn through a felt backing, creating a raised, carpet-like texture that is much thicker than standard embroidery.
Chenille is best for bold shapes and large lettering. Because the yarn is thick, fine details can get lost. To get around this, we often combine chenille with traditional embroidery for the smaller details while keeping the main body fuzzy.
Since these patches are thick and substantial, they look best on heavier fabrics. They are the classic choice for varsity jackets, hoodies, sweatshirts, and heavy tote bags. They might be too heavy for thin t-shirts or performance wear.
To keep the yarn looking fluffy and prevent matting, we recommend turning the garment inside out and washing it on a cold, gentle cycle. Air drying is best, but if you use a dryer, keep it on the lowest heat setting.
Yes, but because chenille patches are thicker and heavier than most, we highly recommend adding a few "tack stitches" around the edges after ironing. This ensures the patch stays securely attached through long-term wear.
